New at MIK

Welcome to the section for Research at the Department of Microbiology OUS/UiO. Please get familiar with the information on these internal pages as well as our main research website.

Mandatory introduction to MIK

All new students and personnel must attend an introduction to MIK. Here you will get information about fire safety, general HSE, and laboratory HSE. Schedule an introduction meeting with the HSE-coordinator. In order to finish your introductory training you must also answer one or more questionnaires depending on your tasks and responsibilities.

Each group leader, together with the lab manager has the main responsibility for training new group members in relevant procedures and using relevant lab equipment. For some dedicated labs, you will be trained by the room responsible. For common instruments, please contact the MIK lab manager. For particular instruments, please contact the Instrument responsible.

In order to start working in the lab and to obtain an access card, all new students and personnel have to undergo suitable training and have a signed "For new employees at MIK" form.

Getting here

MIK is located in the SINTEF building at Forskningsveien 1 in Oslo. You'll find us on floor 4, in the E and F corridors, in the western part of the building.

You will need a SINTEF access card to get in, or present as a guest to the guard in the main entrance. There is a nice canteen right by the entrance.

You can get here by public transport using metro line 1 to Gaustad station, metro line 4 or 5 to Forskningsparken station, tram line 17 or 18 to Gaustadalleen station, or bus line 23, 24 or 40 to Gaustad station. You can also get here by bike or car - but please note that parking could be an issue. OUS has a parking area further north. If you are employed at UiO, you can park in certain areas on the UiO campus with a UiO parking permit. Parking your bike is free.

OUS as an agreement with Ruter that allows all OUS employees to travel by tram between Rikshospitalet and Ullevål Sykehus during working hours (between 07.00 and 19.00) without an ordinary ticket. A OUS ID card can be shown in case of a ticket inspection.

Arriving from abroad

If you come to MIK from abroad, UiOs International Staff Mobility Office (ISMO) has useful information.

And if you plan to stay for a while, check out the course Norwegian for international researchers, or ISMOs overview over types of Norwegian courses, and the course called Working in Norway.

Personalportalen (The personnel portal) and Multi Mobil App

Personalportalen is a web portal that is used by all OUS employees. Personalportalen is a complete toolbox for all HR matters.

All employees are responsible for checking the information registered in Personalportalen, such as correct salary, union affiliation, length of employment, children etc. Each employee can update their personal data.

You can access Personalportalen either on the OUS intranet or from home or external sites. As a first time user, you can access Personalportalen by clicking "Førstegangspålogging" (first time login).

Limited access to information in Personalportalen, i.e. viewing of pay slips and registration of travel expenses, is available with the Visma Multi Mobil App, available on the Apple App Store and on the Google Play Store.
