Experimental cardiology

Group leader
The Experimental Cardiology research group studies disease mechanisms, particularly those underlying chronic heart failure and arrhythmias, with the aim of identifying new therapeutic targets. The group has focused specifically on ion transporters in cardiac myocytes, the signaling molecules that regulate them, and how pharmacological modulation of these transporters alters cardiac function and potentially counteracts heart disease. The main focus is on Ca2+ homeostasis and its interaction with Na+ fluxes, and regulation of the main ion transporters with compartmentalized phosphodiesterase signalling.
