eTreatment Alcohol

Project leader: Eline Borger Rognli

Many people wish to gain control over their alcohol use but do not want to, or are unable to, attend outpatient clinics in person. Oslo University Hospital is participating as a study site in a larger investigation of internet-based treatment for alcohol use. This means that participants can receive help from home.

The research project examines the usefulness of guided internet-based treatment for alcohol overuse. The treatment consists of 8 modules that include assessments, information about factors important for changing drinking patterns, and tasks or exercises that participants can work on independently. The program lasts 8–12 weeks and is delivered online, with regular contact with a therapist through a secure messaging function. The treatment at Oslo University Hospital is provided by the Section for Outpatient Clinics for Substance Use and Addiction.

The study offers e-treatment to people with harmful or risky alcohol use, or those who are concerned about their drinking. The project is led by Vestfold Hospital.
