Our research aims to understand the dynamic mechanisms underlying mental disorders across the lifespan.

We use a range of brain imaging modalities and approaches, with a particular emphasis on combining measures of structural and functional connectivity with genetics. As structural and functional brain characteristics are highly heritable, we investigate how gene-environment interactions shape the risk for mental disorders during sensitive life periods, particularly adolescence and pregnancy.

Mental disorders often emerge during these phases, either in adolescence and early adulthood or in connection with pregnancy and the postpartum period. A major goal of our work is to identify the cognitive, brain, and genetic mechanisms that contribute to mental illness. To achieve this, we use brain imaging to identify neurodevelopmental trajectories associated with genetic and environmental risk factors. We also apply machine learning techniques to evaluate the clinical sensitivity and specificity of these markers at the individual level.
