SEMINAR May 10th 12:30 Ken Lukowiak: "Stress alters long-term memory formation and can also block memory reconsolidation".

Professor Ken Lukowiak from the University of Calgary will give a seminar entitled:
"Stress alters long-term memory formation and can also block memory reconsolidation".

Time: Monday May 10, 2010 12:30
Place: Lunchroom, Dept of Physiology, Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, UiO, Domus Medica

Lukowiak worked for many years on peripheral nervous system contributions to synaptic plasticity in the gill-withdrawal reflex in Aplysia. He then focused his research on neural plasticity in the freshwater snail species Helisoma and Lymnaea, where he has made important contributions towards understanding the neural basis of behavior and of learning and memory processes.

As have many researchers studying learning in molluscs, Lukowiak has also performed studies in vertebrates, through which he has acquired substantial comparative insight.

Lukowiak's principal focus now is on how behavioral and ecologically relevant stressors impact on memory formation.
