Marte K. Viken's project group: HLA and Disease
Our group is primarily focused on studying immunological genes in complex diseases, with a particular focus on some of the most important immunological genes in the human genome, the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) genes. Key questions are how these immune genes are involved in disease development, disease progression and potential treatment. By doing genetic studies, we can uncover important clues relevant for both disease predisposition and disease progression. These genes can influence treatment; hence, understanding their role in disease is instrumental for future precision medicine.
