Hypothyroidism: beneficial health effects of T3 compared to T4 in patients with

Hypothyroidism remains a significant clinical conundrum for clinicians. While the majority of patients on levothyroxine (LT4) are well regulated, 5-10 % of patients present residual symptoms. The main  symptoms are  pronounced cold-intolerance, fatigue, weight gain, cognitive impairment and mood disturbances. According to the available literature, QoL is indeed reduced in patients with thyroid disorder.

The aim of this study is to test the effect of L-T3 in monotherapy on symptoms in women with hypothyroidism and residual symptoms.
