Fredrik Wilsbeck Jerve

  • PhD fellow; MSc

Fredrik Wilsbeck Jerve attained his master's degree in Electronic System Design and Innovation from NTNU Trondheim in 2023. During his studies, he was temporarily affiliated with a tech startup developing a glucose sensor for use in the ICU. In collaboration with the Medical Technology Department at OUS, his thesis investigated the origin of signal artifacts during photoplethysmography (PPG) acquisitions on the dorsalis pedis artery. Data acquired from his thesis later contributed to a publication in the journal “Sensors”.

After graduating, he held a temporary position at the Medical Technology Department, exploring the reproducibility of plethysmography signals for potential use in a diabetic neuropathy screening tool. He then worked at Thales as a hardware engineer before commencing his PhD at the Institute for Surgical Research.

His work will consist of designing and verifying miniaturized sensors for monitoring heart function, targeting the intraventricular septum. Signal processing and machine learning will be applied to extract clinically valuable information. His primary supervisor is Hongxing Luo, with Espen Remme, Fred-Johan Pettersen and Per Steinar Halvorsen serving as co-supervisors.
