We conduct clinical studies on acute poisonings, in particular regarding epidemiology, treatment, complications and prognosis. Several cohorts from the city of Oslo have been followed up to 30 years regarding mortality.

Acute and intensive care medicine and CBRNE-medicine are also important research areas for us.

Studies of suicidal behavior mainly focus on acute poisonings, intervention and the reliability of the suicide statistics in Scandinavia.

As to psychotraumatology we mainly focus on psychosocial problems after serious accidents or illness as well as after mass disasters and terror acts.

Studies on toxic alcohol poisonings focus on metabolic acid-/base-disturbances and early diagnosis by use of strips based on dry-chemistry.

In addition, sympathetic reactivity in relation to high blood pressure and coronary heart disease is a major focus.

Long term prognosis in cardiac arrest survivors are followed up in the “NORCAST” study.
