Subproject II: Combined Radiation and Antiangiogenic Therapy

In this project, human melanomas are used as preclinical models of human cancer. Melanoma cells transfected with green fluorescence protein are transplanted to dorsal window chamber and studied by intravital microscopy. Our group use the window chamber technique in two different subprojects:

Angiogenesis and tumor physiology
Angiogenesis is a necessary prerequisite for tumor growth and metastasis. The main aim of this project is to investigate the dynamics of angiogenesis, and how angiogenesis influences tumor physiology and physiological conditions such as IFP and hypoxia.

Therapeutic strategies
The main aim of this project is to develop therapeutic strategies for overcoming radiation resistance. As one can actually see inside the tumor, one can observe how therapies work, and learn how to improve the therapies.
