Anne-Lise Børresen-Dale invited to give prestigious presentation at DKFZ
At the third Joint International Journal of Cancer-Meyenburg Stiftung lecture in 2009 on September 30 at DKFZ Anne-Lise Børresen-Dale was invited as their distinguished guest. She gave an outstandig prestentation entitled "Exploring the Systems Biology/Pathology of Breast Cancer".
The German Cancer Research Center (Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum, DKFZ) is the largest biomedical research institute in Germany. More than 2,000 staff members, including 850 scientists, are investigating the mechanisms of cancer and are working to identify cancer risk factors.

Prof. Børresen-Dale was educated at the Universities of Trondheim and Oslo and was awarded her Ph.D. degree in Medical Biochemical Genetics from the University of Oslo in 1978. She has continued her career in her home country of Norway where she was judged qualified as a professor in gene technology in 1987 at the University of Oslo, Norway, nominated for a professorship in Molecular Biology at Medical Faculty, University of Oslo, Norway, in 1991, as Professor in Tumor Biology, Medical Faculty, University of Oslo, Norway, in 1992, and called as a Professor in Molecular Oncology, University of Bergen, Norway in 2000. Throughout this period she also worked as a visiting scientist at many fine research institutes in Europe and the USA.
Her present work involves molecular genetic studies of breast cancer: identification of genotypes and gene expression profiles contributing to elevated cancer risk, radiation sensitivity, tumor aggressiveness, and therapy resistance. The goal is to follow the linear time course of predisposition, initiation, early stages, and advanced disease and to dissect the molecular mechanisms triggered at each stage and to follow the multidimensional interactions at various levels in a systems biology approach for better risk estimation, prognostication and prediction.
She has received numerous prizes for her outstanding research, is an elected member of The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters, and the author of 341 published scientific papers, 31 chapters in books and invited reviews, and 32 articles in Nordic journals and books.
