Research groups from the Institute supported from National cancer plan

New assignment of resources to cancer research

As a follow-up of National Cancer Plan (1999-2003) the Norwegian Research Council prepared the strategy plan "Increased emphasis on cancer research". During a four-year period several major cancer research projects have been funded according to this plan, funded by the Ministry of Health. New resources has been announced, with deadline April 1st. An international committee has evaluated the applications, and the Research Council reached a decision on June 17th. The resources have gone to both continuation and to start-up of new major projects running for several years. Among the twelve major cancer research projects that will receivefunding the following four years there are two run by groups at the Institute for Cancer Research at NorwegianRadium Hospital:
  • Ragnhild Lothe, Department of Genetics: "Developmental biology of solid tumours may pave the way for advanced medicine"
  • Gunhild Mælandsmo and Øystein Fodstad: Department of Tumor Biology: "Molecular and biological studies of cancer metastasis"
