Guest seminar on "Mitotic Exit Phosphatases in Yeast" Sandra Lopez-Avilés

Sandra Lopez-Avilés from the Chromosome Segregation Laboratory, Cancer Research UK, London will give a lecture on the subject "Mitotic Exit Phosphatases in Yeast".

Time: Thursday February 10, 1400 hrs
Place: Main Auditory, The Research Building (building K), Radiumhospitalet.

This talk will include an introduction to mitotic control and will review its principal features.

Entry into and exit from mitosis is, in eukaryotic cells, largely a matter of balancing the activities of protein kinases and phosphatases. Dr. Lopez-Avilés has characterized the events required for a robust regulation of mitotic entry, involving the phosphatase Cdc25 (Lopez-Avilés et al, Mol Cell, 2005), the Srk1 kinase (Lopez-Avilés et al, Mol Biol Cell, 2008), as well as the fundamental principles of mitotic exit regulation (Lopez-Avilés et al, Nature, 2009; Lopez-Avilés and Uhlmann, Curr Biol, 2010). This talk will include an introduction to mitotic control and will review its principal features.
