JBI Award for for "Best Paper in Translational Bioinformatics" to scientists from Department of Genetics
The Journal of Biomedical Informatics (JBI) Award for "Best Paper in Translational Bioinformatics" was given to a work entitled "Allele-specific copy number analysis of breast carcinomas" and originating from the Department of Genetics at the Institute for Cancer Research. Presenting author was Peter Van Loo (photo), visiting postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Genetics. Co-authors affiliated to the Oslo University Hospital were Silje Nordgard, Hege Russnes, Inga Rye, Bjørn Naume, Anne-Lise Børresen-Dale and Vessela Kristensen.
The ceremony took place during the annual international conference on "Intelligent Systems for Molecular Biology" (ISMB), which was held in Boston this summer. The ISMB 2010 is counted as the years most important computational biology event globally. This is the major meeting of the International Society for Computational Biology (ISCB).
JBI (Journal of Biomedical Informatics) editorial board members in attendance at the ISMB meeting served as the selection committee for the JBI Award for "Best Paper in Translational Bioinformatics". The selection of the winning work was based on the written quality of the abstract, the research described, and the oral presentation at the meeting.
