August 27, 2026 PhD Defence: Andrea Enerstad Bolle

On August 27, 2026, Andrea Enerstad Bolle successfully defended her thesis "Understanding Age as a Risk Factor for Status Epilepticus”, at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) and Odense University Hospital.

This project has grown out of an ongoing collaboration between our groups in Oslo (led by Kjell Heuser) and Odense (led by prof. Christoph Beier), including also prof. Rune Enger and his staff in GliaLab, University of Oslo. It was truly translational research in its best sense, bridging basic neuroscience and clinical epilepsy care across two countries. The project is an important contribution to our understanding of why the aging brain is particularly vulnerable to status epilepticus.

Andrea defended her thesis with brilliance, and the opponents struck a wonderful balance: a friendly atmosphere combined with genuinely high scientific rigor throughout the defense. Thanks to Associate Prof. Christian Samsonsen (NTNU/St. Olavs Hospital), Prof. Kimmo Jensen (Aalborg University/Aalborg University Hospital), and chair Prof. Frantz Rom Poulsen (SDU).
