Extrapolated NORMal valueS from historical records – The E-Norms study
THE PROJECT
The E-norms project is a quality control and research project at Oslo University hospital, which evaluates new methods for establishing normal values for clinical neurophysiology.
You can see a video presentation of the project from February 2022 here (downlod via Dropbox)
OUR AIM
Our overarching aim is to improve neurophysiological diagnostics for people who suffer from neuromuscular disease in Norway.
To reach our aim we have the following objectives:
- Establish a large database with neurophysiological data from Norwegian hospitals.
- Evaluate, compare and validate novel statistical methods for calculating normal values based on historical records.
- Deliver laboratory specific age-adjusted normal values for EMG and NCS for all age groups, including children and the elderly where adequate normal values are lacking today.
- Establish a national system for quality improvement in clinical neurophysiological laboratories.
Based on historical records from patients at Oslo University Hospital, we have developed normal values with the E-norms method for the most commonly investigated nerves with nerve conduction studies.
