DNA and protein content in bacteria

The figure shows the protein (FITC) and DNA content (Hoechst 33258) of rifampicin-treated E. Coli. The internal control (slowly growing E.coli) for DNA content  has not been stained with FITC and is found “on the wall” to the left.

These figures were generated by gating on the FITC-negative cells and the FITC-positive cells in the previous figure. The left plot shows the DNA content of the “internal control” with 1 to 2 chromosomes and the right plot the DNA content of the “cells of interest” (rifampicin-treated E. Coli) with 2, 4, and 8 chromosomes.
