Is all communication good communication?

In most cases the answer is yes. However a bit of caution may smart when interacting with media:

  • Some are better than others in media communication. Use the best ones.
  • Always consider patents and IPR. Do not reveal anything that may harm the project
  • Timing may be important. Consider what to say when. Big press coverage before any result are ready may be counter productive
  • If you have great news find a great place to publish it. A local newspaper may blow the whole newness and prevent you from getting national or international coverage
  • Ensure the possibility to read texts before they are published. Just to correct errors and misunderstandings. The journalist wants to write the story in his/her way.
  • Ensure that your project, your institution and the right people are credited. Insist on this and make sure it is correctly done.
  • Remember the contractual obligations to credit the H2020 and EC/EU for the project funding
