Should I resubmit my proposal?

Yes, if you have got a reasonably good score on the evaluation.

You can improve your text based on the evaluation you got and by trying several times you may succeed. Many successful proposal has been sent in several times.

You may also consider sending your idea to another instrument or funding body. However, if you resubmit to another program, you MUST adapt the full text to the new scheme. This means rewriting the text in the spirit of the new scheme.

You should NOT resubmit if your idea has been heavily criticized:

  • The idea is not new
  • This work has been done before (i.e. you did not know current knowledge in the field)
  • Your ambition is too low
  • There will be little or no impact of your results
  • You do not seem to have the competence needed

If your core idea is killed by the evaluators, the chances of improving your proposal are minor. Rather than resubmitting, write a new proposal on another idea.

How to resubmit:

  • If your score is close to funding, you may just do minor changes
    • Address the evaluation report and comments carefully
    • If you decide on more major changes be careful and do not take out or introduce points that may impair the original and its structure
    • Remember: The same proposal may get funding next time because
      • The evaluators are new
      • The competition may have changed
      • The budget may be bigger
  • If you get credit for your idea but a medium score you should probably do major modifications
    • Keep the idea and try to build the logic and reasoning around it in a new way
    • Take out parts that was badly evaluated and substitute them;
      • New WPs
      • New resources
      • New partners
      • Better impact and innovation text
      • Better SoA
      • New or better methods

If the funding body, ask you to indicate if you send in a resub: Be honest and say so. It is fairly easy for them to find out.

Do not comment in the proposal text about the resubmission or make any references to earlier evaluations. In particular do not argue about earlier evaluations, unfairness or misunderstandings. This is a new proposal that will be evaluated fully on its own.

If you change idea, objectives, several partners, WPs, structure etc you may regard your proposal as new and not a resub. If the effort you put in is almost as big as a new proposal, then it is fair to think of it as new and not a resub.
