Welcome to the Department of Medical Informatics

The Department has through cooperation with Centre for Cancer Biomedicine and the University of Oslo recently allocated status as Centre of excellence.

Our main issues are research and development, and our aim is to be leading in medical informatics in Norway. Through development and establisment of modern and intelligent solutions, we will among other integrate and make available information within medical treatment and research.

The department consists of four programmes, a software development group and a project and security group in addition to the administration staff. The four programmes are: Bioinformatics, Clinical informatics, Online Medicine and Imaging.

Imaging holds a number of different activities within the fields research, development, diagnostics and service.

Changes in the DNA organisation during development of cancer are the divisions main research project. We have focused on development of methods for image analysis, plus evaluation of nucleotyping as a prognostic marker. This will be carried on and in addition we will focus on the connection between functional and structural changes in chromatin.
