COVID-19 outcome in patients with chronic kidney disease

Patients with chronic kidney disease show suppressed immune response due to the uremic state and in case of renal transplant recipients also due to the life-long immunosuppressive drug treatment. The data on effects of SARS-CoV-2 infection in this patient population is limited.

The Norwegian Renal Registry (NRR) is an informed consent based permanent national medical quality registry for patients with serious renal disease (individual coverage of >99.5% of the Norwegian population). The registry collects a set of clinical variables at start of each treatment modality and annually treatment related data from all 26 local nephrology units in Norway.

The aim of the present protocol is to analyze short- and long-term outcomes of SARS-CoV-2 infections and COVID-19 in chronic kidney disease patients with regards to;

1) anti-COVID19 treatment,
2) patient survival,
3) graft survival (in transplants),
4) co-infections,
5) comorbidities relevant to the patient- and graft survival
6) detection of SARS-CoV-2 IgM and IgG.

Information of SARS-CoV-2 infection and COVID-19 treatment relevant data are to be collected continuously and interim analyses performed with short time-intervals.
