<title><![CDATA[Aiming at national support for targeted cancer therapy research ]]></title>

<description><![CDATA[Oslo Cancer Cluster recently arranged their annual "Cancer Crosslinks Seminar". This year the subject was targeted cancer therapy. Among the lecturers was professor Ola Myklebost, senior researcher at the Department of Tumor Biology and leader of The Norwegian Cancer Genomics Consortium (NCGC).2011 was the starting year for a governmental research programme for clinical cancer studies, administered by the Norwegian Research Council. The theme area for the announcement is "individually adapted cancer treatment". A sum amounting to 100 mill NOK will be distributed over a period of 5 years and 60 mill NOK was announced this autumn. The NCGS has applied for support for a research project spanning 3 years for studying genetic changes in tumors.]]></description>

<title><![CDATA[New gene-based prognostic test for colorectal cancer ]]></title>

<description><![CDATA[Researchers at Oslo University Hospital, Radium Hospital and Aker, have developed a prognostic test for patients with stage II colorectal cancer. The test, ColoGuideEx, measures the activity of 13 genes in the cancer tissue, and each gene contributes with prognostic information. The study was published on January 2nd, 2012, in the prestigious journal GUT (impact factor 11). <description><![CDATA[In the Dec 22 2011 issue of Nature Cell Biology (journal impact factor 19.407), Tor Erik Rusten and Harald Stenmark from the Institute for Cancer Research and the Centre for Cancer Biomedicine review recent findings that implicate the endosomal sorting complex required for transport (ESCRT) machinery in developmental processes. Originally identified for their involvement in endosomal sorting and multivesicular endosome (MVE) biogenesis, ESCRT components have recently been shown to control additional cellular functions such as receptor signalling, cytokinesis, autophagy, polarity, migration, miRNA activity and mRNA transport.]]></description>

Lifelong disability is often a consequence, despite the plasticiy of the newborn brain, which to a certain degree has the ability to repair itself. The Inven2 Prize for 2011 went to the Johanne Olweus's "Immunotherapy and Antigen presentation" reseach group for developing a novel method to produce soluble T-cell receptors in human cells.]]></description>
