Jonas Wadström is currently Consultant Surgeon in the Division of Transplantation Surgery at the University Hospital of Oslo. He qualified from the University of Basel, Switzerland, in 1973 and went on to pursue his postgraduate studies in Switzerland and Germany. During his time in Germany he studied liver transplantation, with a special interest in living-donor procedures and also split-liver transplantation. He was appointed Ph.D. in 1990, Consultant Surgeon in 1991 and Associate Professor in 1996 at the University Hospital of Uppsala, Sweden. He has been honoured with the title of Dr HC and Proffesor de Onoare.
Professor Wadström is a member of several international bodies, has participated and co-chaired consensus conferences on living donor and kidney transplantation and is former secretary and current president elect of the Swedish Transplantation Society.
A pioneer of living-donor laparoscopic nephrectomy with a special interest in living-donor kidney transplantation, he is author or co-author of more than 160 peer-reviewed journal articles, abstracts and book chapters. Professor Wadström has, together with Professor Gaston, co-chaired a series of symposia entitled Living Donor Kidney Transplantation and Controversies in Renal Transplantation as well as co-edited a recent state of the art book entitled Living Donor Kidney Transplantation.
His current research focus concerns issues related to kidney transplantation and especially Living Donor Kidney Transplantation.
