Projects:

Hirschsprung's Disease - A multicenter, Scandinavian study on how cellular, morphological and surgical characteristics influence the outcome of surgery.

Supervisors: Kristin Bjørnland, Ragnhild Emblem

Aims of the project:

  • Compare functional results in Hirschsprung's patients operated with either transanal or laparotomy assisted endorectal pull-through.
  • Evaluate functional results after surgery for Hirschsprung's disease in three centers in Scandinavia.
  • Characterize the histology in the ganglionic part of the resected bowel and relate these findings to functional results.
  • Investigate whether endosonographic images of the anal sphincters after surgery for Hirschsprung's Disease correlate with anal canal pressures and anorectal function.
