Department of Medicine has a broad and extensive scientific activity. Most of our employees has a scientific background, and active research is conducted in all our sections. Several of the research grops have en international reputation.

The total scientific production is considerable, with 120 to 140 articles published in international referee-based journals every year. Normally, 3-4 PhD degrees are completed anually. The department has always 15 to 20 doctoral stipendiates affiliated.

In addition to our clinical research we have an extensive collaboration with laboratories both within and outside the hospital. Translational research has been given a central position. The department is interested in making the gap between laboratory research and treatment of patient as short as possible. The scientific activity is related to central patient groups, which are given accounts of and treated by our department. This is the case for

  • organ transplants, inclusive kidney, liver, pancreas and bone marrow
  • cancer diseases in haemopoietic organs
  • bleeder's disease, thrombophilia
  • immuno deficiency diseases
  • inflammatory diseases
  • osteo porosis and bone metabolism
  • chronical liver diseases
  • neuroendocrine tumours
  • inflammetory intestinal diseases and coeliac disease
  • hypercholesterolaemia and other hyperlipidaemias
