Medinnova's Idea Prize to research group working on early markers for tumors in the digestive system

Every year Medinnova distributes its Idea prize to the best idea with commercial potential originating from employees belonging to the Norwegian Health Region South-East (Helse Sør-Øst).
This years prize went to four employees from the Department of Cancer Prevention: Guro E. Lind (photo), Ragnhild A. Lothe, Rolf I. Skotheim and Terje Ahlquist.
They have identified new biological markers for colorectal tumours. These markers may contribute to the development of a test for discovering cancer at an early stage.

Dr. Ragnar Mørk legacy prize to Anne Simonsen

This year's prize from "Dr. Ragnar Mørk legacy" is awarded Anne Simonsen from the Department of Biochemistry at the Norwegian Radium Hospital.
The "Dr. Ragnar Mørk legacy" prize is distributed annually to a scientist who has achieved excellent results throughout years of outstanding research.
The ceremony took place in the seminar room at the Institute for Cancer Research on Friday 22nd of November. Simonsen gave a lecture summarizing her work.

King Olav V's annual prize for cancer research 2007 was on June 14th awarded to Professor Ragnhild A. Lothe from the Department of Cancer Prevention at the Institute for Cancer Research, Rikshospitalet-Radiumhospitalet. King Harald V presented Professor Lothe with this prestigious prize, which is funded by Norwegian Cancer Society.

Ragnhild A. Lothe has been elected as a member of "The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters".

The membership was confirmed by the handover of a diploma on the 150 years anniversary of the Society May 2007 with King Harald present.

Johan Moan elected member of "The Royal Norwegian Society of Science and Letters"

Johan Moan from the Department of Radiation Biology at the Institute for Cancer Research has been elected member of "The Royal Norwegian Society of Science and Letters", Division of Sciences.

The membership was confirmed by the handover of a diploma at the meeting for the society in Trondheim on January 22nd.

The objective of the Academy is to promote the sciences, and its members are divided into two Divisions, Letters and Sciences.

This year's prize from "Dr. Ragnar Mørk legacy" has been awarded to Bjørn Naume. The award is personal, and amounts to NOK 200.000.

The ceremony took place at Thursday 29th of November in the seminar room (F4) at the Institute for Cancer Research .

The purpose of the prize is to promote and encourage cancer research at the Norwegian Radium Hospital.

During the meeting for the European Association for Cancer Research (EACR) in Budapest this summer Anne-Lise Børresen-Dale was chosen "president elect", implying that she will become president in 2008, after two years in the executive committe.

In addition, Anne-Lise Børresen-Dale has recently been elected member of the board of the Cancer Registry of Norway.

Professor Ragnhild Lothe from Institute of Cancer Research, RR-HF, has accepted to serve as member of the laboratory technical group that will elucidate the future quality control of forensic DNA analyses.

Harald Stenmark new member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters.

Harald Stenmark

Harald Stenmark has been elected as a member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters.

Stenmark has been characterizing how growth factor signalling is modulated by intracellular trafficking. He is especially interested in the connection between this cellular pathway and carcinogenesis. Read more about his science on www.radium.no/stenmark.

Swiss-Bridge Award 2004 to Anne-Lise Børresen-Dale

Anne-Lise Børresen-Dale from the Department of Gentics at the Institute for Cancer Research has won the prestigious Swiss-Bridge Award 2004.

Her proposal "Identification of genotypes influencing the global tumour expression profile leading to elevated breast cancer risk, tumour aggressiveness and therapy resistance" convinced the jury members of the Swiss-Bridge Award.

The project will be supported with CHF 250.000,- (NOK 1.325 mill.)
The ceremony took place in Zurich on the 13th of October 2004.

Young Cancer Researcher Award to Therese Sørlie

The European Association for Cancer Research confers the EACR Young Cancer Researcher Award in recognition of an outstanding contribution in the field of fundamental research in cancer. This award is presented on an annual basis to a young member of the Association. Two “Highly Commended” Awards have also been made.

On the occasion of EACR-18 the award will be presented to Therese Sørlie.

King Olav V's cancer research prize for 2004 was on March 5th given to professor dr. med Erlend B. Smeland from Institute for cancer research at the Norwegian Radium Hospital. He received the prestiguous prize from Norwegian Cancer Societies for his research on lymphomas.

Johan Moan receives the Birkeland prize

Professor and researcher Johan Moan at the Department of Biophysics has received the "Norsk Hydros Birkelandpris" in physics for the year 2003. The prize is 25.000 NOK, and is attributed to excellent Norwegian science in the field of physics. The prize is atributes every second year by the Norwegian Physics Community (Norsk Fysisk Selskap), and is the most prestigous Norwegian prize in the field of physics.
